Transportation Yard Worker

Job Description

Key Responsibilities:
  • Trailer Management:
    • Coordinate and direct the movement of trailers in and out of the yard.
    • Inspect trailers upon arrival and departure for compliance and condition.
    • Maintain accurate logs of trailer locations and status.
  • Scheduling & Coordination:
    • Schedule and monitor trailer arrivals and departures to ensure timely operations.
    • Communicate with drivers, dispatch, and warehouse teams to align schedules.
  • Documentation & Reporting:
    • Use computer systems to update trailer status and yard inventory.
    • Prepare and maintain accurate records in Excel for reporting and tracking purposes.
  • Equipment Operation:
    • Operate forklifts and pallet jacks safely and efficiently.
    • Perform basic maintenance checks on equipment as needed.
  • Safety & Compliance:
    • Adhere to all safety protocols and company policies.
    • Ensure yard operations comply with DOT and company standards.
Qualifications:
  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Computer Skills: Proficient in Microsoft Excel and basic computer applications.
  • Strong organizational and time-management skills.
  • Ability to work on feet for extended periods and perform frequent walking.
  • Forklift and pallet jack experience required.
  • Previous yard experience strongly preferred.
  • Excellent communication skills and attention to detail.
Physical Requirements:
  • This is a physical job, not a desk or sit-down position.
  • Ability to lift up to 50 lbs.
  • Comfortable working outdoors in varying weather conditions.
  • Extended standing and walking throughout the shift.
