Production Worker
Job Description
Job Title: Production Associate
Location: Chelsea, MA
Pay: $15.00
Shifts: Please tell the recruiter which shift you will be available for:
- “1A” Sunday-Wednesday 5:00AM – Finish (usually between 3-4PM)
- “1B” Thursday-Saturday 5:00AM-Finish (usually between 3-4PM)
- 2nd Monday-Wednesday 3:00PM- Finish & Thursday-Friday 4:00PM-Finish
Job Summary
The Production Associate will be responsible for working and maintaining knowledge in at least one area of production process. This position may perform any of the following duties and tasks or be cross trained into any of the following production areas:
Duties and Responsibilities:
- Maintains knowledge of various leafy greens and other products.
- Enforces and adheres to all safety regulations as required by the position and the company’s safety policies.
- Adheres to all current Good Manufacturing Practices (cGMPs) per the Food and Drug Administration (FDA).
- Follows and enforces all Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) regarding production processing tasks and protocols.
- Ensures all actions are taken to prevent food from being contaminated.
- Trains and cross-trains personnel as they are assigned to the various areas of production; Ensures tasks can be completed properly and accurately.
- Removes debris on floors, removes trash, organizes, and puts away all materials at the end of the production day in preparation for Sanitation crew.
- Generally, these roles will set up production lines and areas for daily success by preparing all necessary items prior to production start-up.
Blending
- Oversee inbound raw product
- May perform inventory prior to start up to identify accuracy or shortfalls.; Communicates shortfalls to production and receiving managers.
- Sets-up wash lines and the minor ingredient cut-up area.
- Supplies all wash lines with product throughout the shift following the daily blend sheet.
- Visually inspects all product daily to ensure it meets specifications; Reports product deviations to Quality Assurance when product is not meeting specifications.
- Learn and retain knowledge of raw product components.
- Safely lifts and dumps totes of raw product into conveyer belt for processing.
- Maintains knowledge of sorter and wash line equipment; May act as back-up to sorter operators
- Must be able to frequently bend, and lift and/or move up to 50 pounds.
Catch-Dry
- Use clean plastic barrels on rolling dollies to catch washed product from dispensing equipment.
- Safely lifts and transfers washed product in plastic barrels on rolling dollies to spin dryers; Activates spin dry cycle and awaits cycle completion; Transfers product on rolling dollies from spin dyer to designated uplift conveyer and/or shaker for further processing.
- Trains all new personnel on catch and dry procedures with emphasis on proper rotation to optimize spin dryer use and throughputs.
- Follows SOP for conventional and organic wash line process.
- Safely uses pneumatic air gun to blow unwanted product out of barrel prior to re-use; Follows food safety rules while using pneumatic air gun.
- Inspects all catch and dry equipment including dyers, barrels, dollies, pneumatic air guns.; Reports defects immediately to Supervision and Quality Assurance.
- Must be able to stand, stoop, or bend for long periods of time.
- Must be able to frequently lift and/move up to 50 pounds.
Pack Lines
- Oversee packing lines to ensure orders are being processed accurately based on daily issued job tickets.
- Verifies that the correct materials are being used (i.e., bags, clam shells, labels, corrugate, etc.)
- Provides visual inspections of processes, packaging, labeling, product to ensure a food safe product is manufactured; Communicates any defects or issues to Quality Assurance immediately.
- Assists Quality Assurance with collecting samples.
- Check weights for accuracy and yield outputs.
- Trained in various operations equipment (labeler, conveyers, tray fillers, scales, scanners, check weighers, etc.).
- Report issues with equipment and personnel to Manufacturing Technician and/or Shift Manager
Label Room
- Prepares all job tickets and master carton labels ahead of run time as to eliminate downtime.
- Prints job tickets and master carton labels to match job tickets; Inspects labels to ensure accuracy
- Utilizes computers to access and print jobs and labels as pre-assigned to pack lines; Physically distributes labels to pack line personnel/label operators.
- Reports on label defects to Manufacturing Technician and/or Shift Manager.
- Collects all production tools issues at the beginning of the shift (rewind pins, order totes, clipboards and pens, etc.).
- Cross-checks quantities of labels provided and communicates deviations to Inventory Specialist.
Palletizer
- Safely uses electric pallet jacks to move pallets of raw product from cooler to production floor.
- Uses hand-held radio to communicate with pack line personnel including product changes, product availability, rates of production, and changeovers, etc.
- Must be able to stand, stoop, or bend for long periods of time.
- Must be able to frequently lift and/move up to 50 pounds.
General Required Skills/Abilities:
- Ability to communicate effectively.
- Strong work ethic and punctuality.
- Strong attention to detail and organizational skills.
- Ability to work in a team.
- Ability to safely operate electric pallet jacks
- Knowledge of human safety and food safety topics.
- Flexible to work at various production stations
- Bilingual is a plus
Experience:
- 3-6 months experience in manufacturing or production environment.
Work Environment:
The production facility and associated warehousing are refrigerated facilities, which means this position must be able to work in a cold, wet, and loud environment for long periods of time with the proper personal protective equipment (PPE). This position requires frequent standing, stooping, and/or bending for long periods of time. Must be able to lift 50 lbs. on an occasional basis.
Food Safety/Maintenance:
All food safety and quality problems must be brought to the attention of someone with authority such as your Supervisor, Quality Technician or Quality Manager to initiate action, if necessary.
