SUMMARY
The Flex Operator Sr. requires a high level of competence, production experience, knowledge, and previous responsibility. This role performs a variety of production tasks to include bonding and assembly of high-quality products, filling, packing, and inspecting in a fast-paced production environment and meeting production quotas. Work is performed under minimal supervision, meaning general directions are given with occasional status checks. This is a key production role, and the successful candidate must become skilled at set-up, filling, operating, and maintaining production equipment in accordance with established procedures and guidelines. The Flex Operator Sr. must be flexible, must adapt to various tasks quickly and can work independently or as part of a team, providing mentorship to junior level team members as needed. May work closely with the lead person to ensure departmental success. The Flex Operator Sr. reports directly to the Shift Supervisor.
 
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
  • General cleaning of machines and work area upon start-up and shutdown.  Cleaning documented on a daily checklist.
  • Follow established procedures and instructions to bond and assemble products.
  • Maintains time and production documentation as required.
  • Quality: Inspects work in process to documented standards. Inspects and verifies conformance of product to specifications contained in product routing. Communicates supplier defects and manufacturing defects. Works with the Quality Department regarding nonconforming products.
  • Promptly at workstation per work schedule (before / after breaks / lunches / shift start & end).
  • Performs intermittent dimensional product inspections to determine product acceptance.
  • Escalates problems with appropriate support personnel within the department.
  • Responsible for maintaining material and product traceability throughout the production process.
  • Various manual production tasks include repetitive tasks such as counting items, assembling products, solvent bonding and capping, filling/loading product into packaging, assembling cartons/boxes, packaging, and labeling of finished products.
  • Performs more complex assembly and kitting.
  • Set up jobs, machines, and equipment and assures timely and accurate retrieval of necessary materials to maintain production levels and anticipates shortages in components by looking ahead and correcting. Performs equipment/product changeovers.
  • Responsible for operating machine at its optimal efficiency. Performs periodic checks on equipment and solves problems as detected.
  • Follow company safety rules and regulations.
  • Adheres to all safety rules and regulations, including PPE usage.
  • Communicates with maintenance, engineering, leads and supervisors.
  • Identifies and communicates process/production improvements.
  • Identifies and informs the lead person or supervisor of any potential safety hazards.
  • Operates pallet jack.
  • Troubleshoots and resolves equipment and product issues.
  • Daily equipment maintenance.
  • May be required to work overtime.

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE:
  • High school diploma or general education degree (GED). Six months or more of related experience, technical school, and/or training.
  • 6 months or more related experience, technical school, and/or training
  • Familiar with Microsoft Office products, ERP or MRP systems
SKILLS AND ABILITIES:
  • Familiar with Microsoft Office products, ERP or MRP systems.
  • Must be technically inclined, detail oriented and possess analytical skills.
  • Willing to perform repetitive tasks for extended periods.
  • Ability to speak, read, write, and comprehend simple instructions, short correspondence, and memos in English. 
  • Ability to work on assigned line/process AND ability to work at pace for line/process to achieve shift goal.
  • Manual dexterity, good eye/hand coordination.
  • Flexiblity/Adaptablity
  • Good communication skills.
  • Willing to learn.
  • Understands the importance of line clearance.
  • Intermediate computer skills such as data entry for labor booking, time off requests, email, Microsoft Office (Excel, Outlook, Word), ERP (Issuing Material and Labor)
  • Must be able to work independently and with a team.
  • Understands FIFO concepts.
  • Ability to identify correct expiration dates.
  • Basic Lean Manufacturing knowledge or experience (5S, Continuous Improvement, Flow Manufacturing, Waste Identification)
 
 
 
Environmental Conditions:
The majority of time would be spent in the plant areas (clean room and warehouse) at moderate temperatures with the presence of machinery and power lifts.
 
Physical Capabilities:
Frequently required to stand, walk, sit with repeated bending, stretching, twisting, and lifting. Able to lift, push and pull up to 20 pounds.
